CP: Connie, thanks for meeting with Calidream Publishing (CP). Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Connie: My full name is Connie Marie Morris, and I was born in Newburg, SC and raised in Chicago's Cabrini Green along with my two sisters, Gina “Baby” Morris, and Donna “Peaches” Morris.

CP: How did growing up in Cabrini Green impact your life?

Connie: It made me resilient, shrewd, and compassionate towards others.

CP: As a biracial woman, did you have any identity issues?

Connie: I did, especially as a child. I was teased a lot because of my light skin, long hair and green eyes. As I learned my family history, I stopped feeling ashamed. Today, I’m very comfortable in my own skin in the way God made me.

CP: Considering what you faced growing up, are you now surprised that many people admire how attractive you are?

Connie: Initially, the accolades made me feel inadequate. I am honored to have been on the cover of magazines and billboards. However, I want to be remembered for my character, and how I helped change lives. People will forget who won Miss America within a few years, but they will always remember a person who made their community better.

CP: Now for the fun question: As a former deejay, who were your favorite artist then, and who do you enjoy listening now?

Connie: Back then I loved all the P-Funk bands like Parliament & the Funkadelics, the Ohio Players, the Gap Band, EWF. Today, I like Robin Thicke, Jill Scott, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, and Anthony Hamilton.

CP: What are ten facts about you?

Connie: I love to cook, and I have my own garden. I love spending time with my husband and family. I love traveling, shopping, and I like to go skiing. I’m not a big fan of TV. I prefer to read a good book or listen to music.

CP: How can readers find out more about you?

Connie: Order a copy of A River Moves Forward—It’s all about my life.
