Take the Road Less Traveled

"I guarantee if your books don't sell, you will get your money back!" How many sharks have we heard that from? LOTS! The truth is, NO ONE can guarantee book sells unless they are God, and we know they're not!

So, how can Independent Authors market their books? The first answer, which everyone already knows, is social media. However, if everyone is on that road, why not take an additional road, a back road that is less traveled and yet more marketable for your book and its genre?

How can I do this, one may ask? For starters, take a look at your community and assess how are books being sold. Are book signings still popular? If not, how do members of your community purchase their books? Perhaps events or book fairs? Will advertising in the local papers help? Renting a kiosk at the malls? What about joining with another author and creating your own book signing at a library, community center, or even a popular grocery store?

You can even take advantage of your regular commute by striking up a conversation with the person sitting next to you. A regular conversation can be easily turned into a sale. As writers, we have to have a creative mind and a business mind. Once you discover what works, use it until that method of marketing has been exhausted and then create a new idea. There is no one way to market your book, so never limit yourself. If you keep that mentality, you will always come up with create different strategies to increase sells..

Keep in mind, regardless of how creative your marketing plans may be, you cannot make someone buy your book. At certain times of the year, sells may vary. Do not be discouraged. Every business owner has their peaks and valleys. So don't give up! The road less traveled often leads to success!
